Metz married British journalist Martyn Eaden in January 2008 at a Santa Barbara courthouse. The couple separated in 2013, and their divorce was finalized in December 2015.

Upbringing and early auditions
Metz was born in Homestead, Florida. Her father served in the US Navy. The family relocated to Japan when she was an infant, living there for several years before her parents divorced.
