Beverly D'Angelo

Beverly D'Angelo was married to Italian aristocrat Don Lorenzo Salviati from 1981 to 1995. She later had relationships with production designer Anton Furst and actor Al Pacino. D'Angelo was in a relationship with Pacino from 1997 to 2003, and they had twins, Anton James and Olivia Rose, born on January 25, 2001.

D'Angelo is the daughter of violinist Priscilla Ruth Smith and bass player and television station manager Eugene Constantino "Gene" D'Angelo Jr. Her maternal grandfather, Howard Dwight Smith, designed Ohio Stadium at Ohio State University. She has three brothers, Jeff, Tim and Tony, and has performed with her brother Jeff in the jazz band Blue Martini.

D'Angelo initially worked as an illustrator and animator at Hanna-Barbera Studios before moving to Canada to pursue singing. She performed as a backup singer for Ronnie Hawkins's band, The Hawks, which later became The Band. She also worked as a session vocalist and sang in coffeehouses and clubs.

Her acting career began in theater. She appeared as Ophelia in the Canadian production of Kronborg: 1582, a rock musical based on Hamlet, which was revised as Rockabye Hamlet and transferred to Broadway in 1976. She later returned to the stage in the 1994 Off-Broadway production of Sam Shepard's Simpatico, earning a Theatre World Award for her performance opposite Ed Harris.

D'Angelo made her television debut in the 1976 miniseries Captains and the Kings and appeared in The Sentinel and Woody Allen's Annie Hall in 1977. Her early film work included Every Which Way but Loose in 1978 and Hair in 1979, in which she played Sheila Franklin.

Her performance as country singer Patsy Cline in Coal Miner's Daughter brought a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress. D'Angelo supplied her own vocals for the film, including Cline songs used on its soundtrack, and received a Country Music Association award for Album of the Year. She later sang in films including Daddy's Dyin'... Who's Got the Will? and performed "Lovin' You" in Vegas Vacation.

D'Angelo gained her most widely recognized screen role as Ellen Griswold in National Lampoon's Vacation in 1983. She played the character opposite Chevy Chase and reprised the role in National Lampoon's European Vacation, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, Vegas Vacation, the short film Hotel Hell Vacation, and the 2015 film Vacation.

D'Angelo and Chase also reunited for the ABC comedy pilot Chev & Bev, about a retired couple raising their grandchildren, although the network did not order it as a series. They later recreated a scene from the Vacation franchise for a Mustang commercial.

D'Angelo received a Primetime Emmy nomination for playing Stella Kowalski in the 1984 television adaptation of A Streetcar Named Desire. Her later television films included Slow Burn, Judgment Day: The John List Story, Menendez: A Killing in Beverly Hills, and Sweet Temptation.

She played Doris Vinyard in American History X and appeared in television series including Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Entourage, Shooter, and Insatiable. On Entourage, she played talent agent Barbara "Babs" Miller from 2005 to 2011. She also voiced country singer Lurleen Lumpkin in The Simpsons in 1992, 2008, and 2025.

D'Angelo has continued to use her singing background in film and live performance. Her soundtrack credits include songs for Hair, Coal Miner's Daughter, Honky Tonk Freeway, Cold Front, Daddy's Dyin'... Who's Got the Will?, and Vegas Vacation.

She narrates a short biographical film about Patsy Cline shown to visitors at the Patsy Cline Museum in Nashville, Tennessee. The museum opened to the public on April 7, 2017.
