Very Important People and Dropout comedy

Michaelis became the host of Dropout's Very Important People in 2023. The series features improvisers being interviewed in elaborate costumes and prosthetics while playing spontaneous characters. Michaelis presents the interviews through a fictionalized version of themself, an unflappable journalist whose unusual backstory is developed through recurring improvised details.

Their work with Dropout grew from appearances in CollegeHumor sketches and performances with the Upright Citizens Brigade in Los Angeles. They began appearing on Game Changer and Make Some Noise in 2022, followed by roles on Breaking News, Dirty Laundry, Thousandaires, and Smartypants. In Game Changer's episode "Outvoted," Michaelis and Aabria Iyengar were elected honorary presidents of Dropout.

Michaelis has also performed with the Upright Citizens Brigade improv group Yeti, alongside Zac Oyama, Ally Beardsley, Jacob Wysocki, Lou Wilson, Talia Tabin, Devin Field, and Victoria Longwell. Their appearances on Dropout shows have produced clips that attracted millions of online views.

Television and film roles

Michaelis played Mildred in the second season of the comedy series Upload and appeared in Speechless, Bless This Mess, Motive, and Charmed. They played Sadie Whitaker in three episodes of Murder in a Small Town.

In film and television movies, Michaelis appeared in Four Walls and played Rachel in Hallmark's Hanukkah time-loop romantic comedy Round and Round. They later played Violet in the independently produced dark comedy D(e)ad.

Their later credits include Cheryl Symanski in the spy thriller series Ponies and Hugi in Dimension 20: Gladlands. Michaelis also appeared as Rey in live staged readings connected to the Star Wars franchise.

Early performing life

Michaelis was born in New Jersey, was raised in Illinois, and moved to Kleinburg, Ontario, at 15. They attended the University of Toronto Scarborough for two years before leaving to pursue a short career in fashion and modelling.

Their early interest in performance began with living-room productions of favorite films, followed by theatre and commercial work. They later developed their improvisational style through Toronto performance and the Upright Citizens Brigade, building what they described as a commitment to following whatever absurd premise is unfolding.
