Travis Hunter

Hunter married Leanna Lenee in May 2025. The couple welcomed a son in August 2025.

Hunter's father, Travis Hunter Sr., played football and track at Boynton Beach Community High School and later played semiprofessional football in Florida. Hunter is a Christian and was baptized in October 2025.

Hunter was raised in West Palm Beach, Florida, before moving to the Atlanta area near the end of eighth grade. He played cornerback and wide receiver at Collins Hill High School in Suwanee, Georgia, and lived with assistant football coach Frontia Fountain for two years while attending the school.

During his high school career, Hunter set Georgia state and Gwinnett County records. He finished with 272 receptions for 3,963 yards and 48 receiving touchdowns, breaking the state record for career receiving touchdowns. As a senior, he helped Collins Hill win its first state championship, and he was named a first-team All-American and Georgia Player of the Year by MaxPreps and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Hunter was a consensus five-star recruit and was ranked the nation's top recruit by 247Sports and Rivals. He received scholarship offers from 20 universities before becoming the first five-star recruit to sign with an HBCU or an FCS program.

Hunter began his college career at Jackson State in 2022, playing for head coach Deion Sanders. He became the highest-ranked recruit to commit to an HBCU and earned SWAC Freshman of the Year honors. In eight games, he recorded 18 receptions for 188 yards and four touchdowns, along with 20 tackles, 10 pass breakups, two interceptions and a fumble recovery.

Hunter transferred to Colorado in 2023 after Sanders became the Buffaloes' head coach. In his Colorado debut, he played on offense and defense in a 45-42 upset of TCU, making 11 receptions for 119 yards and recording an interception. He earned consensus All-American honors in 2023 after finishing the season with 57 receptions, 721 receiving yards, five receiving touchdowns, 30 tackles and three interceptions.

In 2024, Hunter won the Heisman Trophy, Walter Camp Award, Bednarik Award, Fred Biletnikoff Award and Paul Hornung Award. He became the first player in college football history to win both the Chuck Bednarik Award as the nation's top defensive player and the Fred Biletnikoff Award as the nation's top receiver. He finished that season with 96 receptions for 1,258 yards and 15 receiving touchdowns, plus 36 tackles, four interceptions, 11 pass breakups and a forced fumble.

Hunter completed his college career with 171 receptions for 2,167 yards and 24 touchdowns, as well as 87 tackles, nine interceptions, 26 pass breakups, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Colorado retired his No. 12 jersey in 2025.

The Jacksonville Jaguars selected Hunter second overall in the 2025 NFL draft after trading up for the pick. He entered the league as a two-way player at wide receiver and cornerback.

Hunter appeared in seven games as a rookie. He made 28 receptions for 298 yards and a touchdown on offense, while recording 15 tackles and three passes defensed at cornerback. In a game against the Los Angeles Rams at Wembley Stadium, he made eight receptions for 101 yards and caught a 34-yard touchdown pass from Trevor Lawrence, while also adding a pass defensed.

A knee injury suffered during practice in October 2025 led to Hunter being placed on injured reserve. He underwent surgery to repair a torn lateral collateral ligament in his right knee and was ruled out for the rest of the season.
