Norma Strait

Norma grew up in Pearsall, Texas, where she met George Strait during high school. After dating on and off, the couple eloped in Mexico on December 4, 1971, followed by a formal wedding ceremony at a church in their hometown. Shortly after their marriage, George enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii, where Norma accompanied him as he launched his early musical efforts with the Army band Rambling Country.

The couple welcomed their first child, daughter Jenifer Lynn Strait, on October 6, 1972, and their son, George "Bubba" Strait Jr., in 1981. Tragedy struck the family in 1986 when 13-year-old Jenifer died in a car accident in San Marcos, Texas. Norma dedicated herself to raising Bubba at home in Texas while George traveled for his touring and recording career.

After Bubba completed high school and attended Texas A&M University, Norma began traveling regularly on tour alongside George. Bubba later pursued a career as a competitive rodeo cowboy and songwriter, collaborating with his father on several songs. Through Bubba and his wife Tamara, Norma has two grandchildren, George Harvey Strait III and Jilliann Louise Strait.

Following the death of their daughter in 1986, Norma and George Strait established the Jenifer Strait Memorial Foundation. The non-profit organization was created to honor Jenifer's memory by directing donations and resources to children's charities, primarily throughout the San Antonio, Texas area.

Over the decades, the foundation has quietly channeled charitable aid to various youth programs and non-profit organizations, serving as a lasting tribute from the Strait family.

Although Norma has generally maintained a private lifestyle outside the public eye, she has frequently accompanied George to major industry ceremonies, including the Academy of Country Music Awards and the Country Music Association Awards. In 2024, she was acknowledged by George when he accepted the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award at the CMA Awards.

In 2019, Norma made a rare on-screen appearance in the official music video for George's single "Codigo." Filmed in Mexico, the video featured Norma dancing and sharing a toast with her husband.
