Sophie Turner

Sophie Turner was married to musician Joe Jonas from 2019 to 2024. They married in Las Vegas on 1 May 2019 and held a second ceremony in Paris later that year. They have two daughters, Willa and Delphine.

Jonas filed for divorce in 2023, after which Turner and Jonas reached a temporary custody agreement concerning their children. Their divorce was finalised in September 2024.

Turner was born in Northampton and moved to Chesterton, Warwickshire, when she was two years old. Her mother, Sally, was a nursery school teacher, while her father, Andrew, worked for a pallet distribution company. She has two older brothers, James and Will.

She began acting and ballet classes at the age of three and joined the Playbox Theatre Company. Turner attended Warwick Prep School and later The King's High School for Girls. At 11, she was offered a place at the Royal Ballet School but chose drama instead.

Turner was cast as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones after her drama teacher encouraged her to audition. Filming on the first season began when she was 14, and the role became her television debut. She appeared throughout all eight seasons of the HBO fantasy drama, while also receiving tutoring on set until she was 16.

Sansa's story developed from that of a young noblewoman into one of the series' central political arcs. In the finale, the character became Queen in the North. Turner's performance earned a Young Artist Award nomination, multiple Screen Actors Guild ensemble nominations, and a 2019 Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.

Turner has discussed the effect of growing up on screen, including struggles with body image, anxiety, depression, and an eating disorder. She has credited therapy and taking breaks from social media with helping her manage those difficulties.

Turner made her feature-film debut as Fay and Lila Delussey in the 2013 thriller Another Me. She followed it with roles in Barely Lethal, Josie, Time Freak, Every Last Secret, Do Revenge, and Trust. In Do Revenge, her brief appearance as Erica became notable for an intentionally exaggerated reaction to an accusation of drug possession.

Her best-known film role outside Game of Thrones is Jean Grey, a mutant character she played in X-Men: Apocalypse and X-Men: Dark Phoenix. She also appeared in the television productions The Thirteenth Tale, Survive, The Staircase, and The Prince, in which she voiced Princess Charlotte.

In 2024, Turner starred as jewel thief Joan Hannington in ITV's six-part drama Joan. It was her first leading role in a television series, and she portrayed Hannington's different identities through changes in accent, wigs, and persona. Her performance received a Woman of the Year award from Harper's Bazaar for performance.

Turner was confirmed to play Lara Croft in Amazon Prime Video's live-action Tomb Raider series. She has also worked as an audiobook narrator, including on Cassandra Clare's City of Heavenly Fire, and has appeared in music videos for the Jonas Brothers and Bastille.

Turner became a patron of Women for Women in 2017, supporting an organisation that works with female survivors of war. She has also taken part in media and cultural projects outside scripted acting, including hosting the web series Powershift in partnership with the Huffington Post.

Her fashion work has included campaigns for Karen Millen and Wella Hair, print work for Louis Vuitton, and an ambassador role for Louis Vuitton. She joined the cultural advisory board of Colossal Biosciences and spoke at South by Southwest London in 2025.
