Sophia Jurksztowicz

Jurksztowicz attended Bishop Allen Academy in Toronto and initially planned to study journalism at Ryerson University. During her senior year, her parents, Zenon and Anna, encouraged her to delay university and spend time in Europe instead. She had already travelled alone to Poland at age 10 to stay with relatives and strengthen her Polish.

After high school, she spent nearly a year in Saint-Tropez, France, working as a live-in nanny for a two-year-old boy named Noé. She became fluent in French within weeks and returned to Toronto the following autumn to study radio and television arts at Ryerson, where she earned her degree.

Jurksztowicz began building her broadcasting career through work at Corus Entertainment and theScore. She contributed to Leafs Lunch and The Bill Watters Show, covered Toronto sports, and handled field reporting, writing, editing, producing, and voice-over duties. She also presented coverage of the Rogers Cup tennis competition and briefly moved into marketing and promotions with Mosaic Sales Solutions.

She joined Sportsnet in October 2012, where she produced and hosted a weekly segment on Scotiabank Wednesday Night Hockey. Her Canadian broadcasting work also included roles with Hockey Night in Canada and CBC News Network. In August 2019, she moved to the United States and joined NESN as a host and reporter covering the Boston Bruins. She won an Emmy in 2021.

Her interest in hockey began in childhood while watching Toronto Maple Leafs games with her father. At age five, she filmed a homemade Hockey Night in Canada segment in her family’s living room, complete with a script she had written herself. Decades later, she returned to NHL coverage professionally, including work from rinkside during Bruins broadcasts.

In 2024, Jurksztowicz took a temporary leave from her role as studio host on NESN’s Bruins broadcasts to focus on personal matters. She had signed a contract extension with NESN that summer and said she was grateful for the network’s support while she delayed the start of her season.

Adam Pellerin handled the Bruins hosting duties during her absence. Jurksztowicz returned to NESN in early 2025 and resumed her work covering the team.
