Ryan Trahan

Trahan resides in Austin, Texas. He began dating fellow content creator Haley Pham in 2018. The couple became engaged in May 2020 and married in November 2020. Pham frequently appears in his travel series and collaborative video projects.

Trahan grew up alongside his older brother, Matthew. He is a practicing Christian, having embraced the faith in 2020 after previously identifying as an atheist.

Trahan attended Rice High School in Altair, Texas, where he competed in cross country and graduated as valedictorian in 2017. He then enrolled at Texas A&M University to run cross country for the Texas A&M Aggies, placing third at the Aggieland Open competition in 2017.

While a student athlete, Trahan operated a YouTube channel where he documented running training and promoted Neptune Bottle, a reusable water bottle business he co-founded in 2016 with Caden Wiese. Later in 2017, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) ruled him ineligible to compete, citing regulations that barred student athletes from using their athletic reputation and platform to market commercial products. Although Trahan applied for a waiver to retain his athletic status while managing his business, he chose to leave Texas A&M to pursue entrepreneurship and content creation full time.

Trahan launched his primary YouTube channel in 2013, shifting over time from fitness vlogs to long-form storytelling, comedic challenges, and philanthropic travel adventures. In June 2022, he gained widespread attention with his Penny Challenge series, inspired by entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk. Starting in California with a single penny, Trahan funded a 30-day journey across the United States to deliver the coin to fellow creator MrBeast in North Carolina, using odd jobs like lawn mowing, dog walking, and reselling goods to earn money along the way.

The 2022 challenge served as a fundraiser for Feeding America, surpassing its initial $100,000 target to raise $1.38 million. Trahan maintained viewer engagement by offering incentives such as the Great Reset, which returned his operational funds to one penny whenever a single donor contributed $50,000, and agreeing to receive donor-selected tattoos for $100,000 donations. In 2023, he completed an international edition of the challenge, traveling from Paris to New York City and raising more than $400,000 for Water.org.

In 2025, Trahan and Haley Pham undertook the 50 States in 50 Days project, visiting unique Airbnb properties in every U.S. state over consecutive days to support St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Featuring fundraising incentives such as a penalty device called the Wheel of Doom, the project raised more than $11 million for the hospital.

Beyond his early venture with Neptune Bottle, Trahan established the clothing brand Howdy Howdy in 2023. He also co-founded Hydra Collective, an online creator and lifestyle apparel brand.

In 2024, Trahan joined candy manufacturer Joyride Sweets as co-owner and chief creative officer alongside founder Tyler Merrick. The company focuses on low-sugar, plant-based, and non-GMO confectionery, launching a line of sour strips that initially sold out at Target. To promote the brand, Trahan introduced a mascot named Joyride Jerry, and in June 2025, the company secured a Guinness World Record for the most photos of people holding candy uploaded to Instagram in one hour.
