Roberta Gonzales

Gonzales began developing an interest in journalism at age 11, when her parents gave her a tape recorder and she started interviewing people. After graduating from Barstow High School, she attended San Diego State University and graduated in 1982. Her first television work was at KPRI-FM and XETV Channel 6 in San Diego, where she worked as a gardener and messenger before moving into film editing, writing, reporting, and weathercasting.

She later worked at KSBY in San Luis Obispo and KFMB in San Diego before joining KNTV in San Jose from 1988 to 1990. She then spent seven years as a meteorologist at WMAQ-TV in Chicago, where she also hosted the children's program News for Kids Chicago Style.

In 1996, Gonzales returned to the Bay Area and joined KPIX-TV in San Francisco. She remained at the station for 21 years as a weather anchor and also provided weather updates for KCBS Radio. Her television work has brought her seven Emmy Awards, eighteen Associated Press Awards for Best Weathercaster, four American Women in Radio and Television Best Weathercaster Awards, and recognition from the Radio & Television News Director Association. She is also a member of the Silver Circle and served as an official torch bearer for the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics.

Gonzales joined KTVU in 2021 after leaving KPIX. Her work at KTVU has included coverage of the station's Bay Area drought series, and she later joined the station's weather team full-time under a two-year contract announced in May 2025. IMDb also credits her with appearances connected to Nash Bridges and Abre la puerta.

After leaving KPIX in 2017, Gonzales established Roberta Gonzales Productions, also known as ROGOPRO, in Pleasanton, California. The company provides video and photo production services for television commercials, events, show production, social media, real estate projects, virtual meetings, and demonstrations.

Gonzales has described the company as a way to produce television programming that informs and entertains. One of its objectives is a weekly entertainment and travel program featuring local and international destinations, while another is helping businesses, nonprofit organizations, and community events with production needs.

Her son Michael Hahn serves as the company's vice president of operations and lead videographer and editor. Gonzales also continues to support charitable events through the company, including fundraising programs and community activities.

Gonzales is an endurance athlete who has competed in marathons, triathlons, and Ironman races. She began running after the death of her younger brother Michael, whose initials she writes on her shoes before races. She completed her first marathon in 1996 and has competed in races in the United States and internationally.

Her athletic record includes more than 30 marathons, five Boston Marathons, five full Ironman competitions, and three Half Ironman competitions. Her races have taken her across several continents, and she has combined athletic travel with her interest in experiencing different cities and cultures.

Gonzales has said that outdoor sports have strengthened her work as a weathercaster because training exposes her to changing conditions across the Bay Area. She also participates in charity events and has used her public profile to encourage fitness and healthier communities.

Gonzales regularly works with charitable organizations and community causes in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her community involvement has included the March of Dimes, the American Cancer Society, the National Humane Society, children's charities, and educational foundations.

She frequently serves as an emcee for fundraising events, galas, and other public programs. Her production company also identifies community service and charity events as important parts of its work.

Gonzales was married to Randy Hahn, a Canadian-American play-by-play commentator for the San Jose Sharks on NBC Sports California. They married in 1986 after meeting while working in television and later divorced.

Gonzales and Hahn have two sons, Randall and Michael. Michael Hahn works with her at Roberta Gonzales Productions as vice president of operations and lead videographer and editor.
