From Miss World to Bollywood recognition

Chopra won the Femina Miss India pageant and the Miss World title in 2000, at the age of 18. The pageant victory led to offers from the Hindi film industry and changed her plans to pursue studies connected with engineering or criminal psychology.

She made her film debut in The Hero: Love Story of a Spy in 2003, after appearing in the Tamil film Thamizhan in 2002. Her early Hindi-film credits included Andaz, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Aitraaz, Krrish and Don, with Krrish and Don helping establish her among Bollywood's leading actresses.

Award-winning performances in Hindi cinema

Chopra received major recognition for playing a troubled model in Fashion (2008). The performance earned her the Filmfare Award and the National Film Award for Best Actress.

She followed Fashion with roles in films including Kaminey, 7 Khoon Maaf, Barfi!, Mary Kom, Dil Dhadakne Do and Bajirao Mastani. Her performance as Jhilmil Chatterjee in Barfi! and Kashibai in Bajirao Mastani became prominent parts of her Hindi-film career.

Quantico and international projects

In 2015, Chopra took the leading role of Alex Parrish in the ABC crime drama Quantico. The role made her the first Bollywood actress to lead a prime-time American television series, and she received a People's Choice Award for the performance.

Her international screen work includes Victoria Leeds in Baywatch, Pinky in The White Tiger, Sati in The Matrix Resurrections, Mira Ray in Love Again and Nadia Sinh in the television series Citadel. She also served as an executive producer on The White Tiger.

Chopra has also pursued music, releasing her first single, "In My City," in 2012. During the fifth Indian Premier League opening ceremony that year, she performed alongside Katy Perry.

Her production work includes the company Purple Pebble Pictures and projects such as Paani, The Sky Is Pink, The White Tiger, Anuja and To Kill a Tiger. She has worked with UNICEF since 2006 and was named a UNICEF national and international Goodwill Ambassador for Child Rights in 2010 and 2016.
