Olivia Munn

Munn has been married to comedian John Mulaney since July 2024. They have two children, Malcolm Hiệp Mulaney and Méi June Mulaney. Their daughter Méi was born via surrogate in September 2024, after Munn underwent a partial hysterectomy during breast cancer treatment. Malcolm's middle name, Hiệp, honors Munn's Vietnamese heritage.

Munn was diagnosed with Luminal B breast cancer in both breasts in April 2023. She underwent four surgeries over ten months, including a double mastectomy, and shared the diagnosis publicly in March 2024. She credited her obstetrician-gynecologist, Dr. Thaïs Aliabadi, with calculating her Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Score, which led to further testing after a normal mammogram and negative genetic testing for cancer genes.

Munn spent much of her formative years in Tokyo after her family relocated there with her Air Force stepfather. She appeared in local theater productions and worked in the Japanese fashion industry. After returning to Oklahoma at 16, she studied journalism at the University of Oklahoma, with minors in Japanese and dramatic arts.

She interned at KJRH-TV in Tulsa and later worked as a sideline reporter for Fox Sports Networks, covering college football and women's basketball. After moving to Los Angeles, she took small acting roles before appearing as Mily Acuna in the television drama Beyond the Break and as a receptionist in Big Stan.

In 2006, Munn won a public contest to replace G4 co-host Kevin Rose on Attack of the Show! She co-hosted the program with Kevin Pereira, hosted Formula D, and presented the online podcast Around the Net. Her work on the gaming and technology program established her public image as a prominent figure in geek culture.

Munn joined The Daily Show with Jon Stewart as a correspondent in 2010, appearing in 16 episodes through 2011. Her recurring segment, "Tiger Mothering," examined the demanding expectations associated with Chinese mothers and included interviews with her own mother. She returned briefly for Jon Stewart's final episode in 2015.

Her major television breakthrough came with Aaron Sorkin's HBO drama The Newsroom. From 2012 to 2014, she played Sloan Sabbith, an economist working for the fictional news network ACN alongside anchor Will McAvoy, portrayed by Jeff Daniels. Munn drew on her journalism experience to shape the character's professional knowledge and newsroom perspective.

During this period, she also appeared in Chuck, Greek, Perfect Couples, and New Girl. In New Girl, she played Angie, Nick's girlfriend, in a three-episode arc.

Munn's early film appearances included Scarecrow Gone Wild, The Road to Canyon Lake, Big Stan, and The Slammin' Salmon. She later had supporting roles in Date Night and Iron Man 2. Robert Downey Jr. praised her improvisation during the making of Iron Man 2.

In Magic Mike (2012), Munn played Joanna, the girlfriend of Channing Tatum's title character. She subsequently appeared in Deliver Us from Evil, Mortdecai, and Ride Along 2, in which she portrayed Detective Maya Cruz.

Munn played Elizabeth Braddock, also known as Psylocke, in X-Men: Apocalypse (2016). She trained six to seven hours a day for the role's martial arts and sword work and used her black belt in taekwondo during preparation. She later joined the cast of The Predator as biologist Casey Brackett and led the films Love Wedding Repeat, Violet, and The Gateway.

Munn has held several voice roles, including Captain Phoebe Callisto in Miles from Tomorrowland, Koko in The Lego Ninjago Movie, Thomas Edison in America: The Motion Picture, and Akiko Yokohama, also known as Lady Bullseye II, in Hit-Monkey. In 2025, she began starring as Samantha Levitt in the Apple TV+ series Your Friends & Neighbors alongside Jon Hamm and Amanda Peet.

She published the memoir Suck It, Wonder Woman!: The Misadventures of a Hollywood Geek in 2010. She also entered into a production agreement with CBS Television Studios, including a deal for a series about a pioneering female sports broadcaster working amid sexism in the 1970s.

Munn has supported animal-protection campaigns with PETA, participated in the Green Your School Challenge, and appeared in the short film Save Ralph. She joined the Time's Up movement and spoke at the 2018 Women's March in Los Angeles. Following increased anti-Asian harassment and violence during the COVID-19 pandemic, she participated in public discussions with Stop AAPI Hate co-founder Russell Jeung and activist Amanda Nguyen.
