Nettspend, born Gunner Shepardson, is an American rapper and songwriter from Richmond, Virginia. He became known through internet-driven underground rap, particularly after a snippet of his song "Drankdrankdrank" went viral in late 2023, and later released the mixtape Bad Ass Fcking Kid*.

Early life

Gunner Shepardson was born in Richmond, Virginia, and began experimenting with rap while he was in fifth grade. His father was a country singer, and Shepardson grew up listening to Michael Jackson, Katy Perry, and Justin Bieber while also developing a strong interest in skateboarding.

Shepardson attended Hermitage High School and left in ninth grade after feeling isolated at school and citing the effects of the COVID-19 lockdowns. He began releasing music to SoundCloud under the name Nettspend in December 2022.

Early career and breakthrough (2022-2023)

Nettspend gained a wider audience in 2023 when a snippet of "Drankdrankdrank" spread on Twitter. Rapper Zuro introduced him to New York rapper Xaviersobased, and Nettspend became associated with underground rap communities including Novagang and 1c34.

His song "Shine N Peace" was included on year-end best-song lists by The Fader and The New York Times. He also released the early mixtape Kickdoor and took a supporting slot at Bushwick's Market Hotel, marking a rise in his live and online visibility.

Bad Ass F*cking Kid (2024)

Nettspend appeared with Xaviersobased on Evilgiane's "40" in January 2024. The track later appeared on best-of-2024 lists by The New York Times and Pitchfork. Nettspend performed at Rolling Loud in March, his first festival appearance, and collaborated with OsamaSon on the June single "Withdrawals".

In July, he released "That One Song," which samples Deftones' "Entombed." In October, he issued "Fck Swag" with a music video directed by Cole Bennett. His debut mixtape, Bad Ass Fcking Kid, followed on December 6, 2024, and its promotional tour included an appearance by PinkPantheress at his Los Angeles show.

The mixtape was built with live performance in mind, with Nettspend describing the songs as music he wanted to present at concerts. Ok produced most of the project, while Evilgiane co-produced "Beach Leak."

Musical style and influences

Nettspend's music draws from trap and jerk, with elements associated with rage. Many of his songs run for less than two minutes, and his production commonly features distorted 808s, loose piano riffs, and glimmering synthesizers. His sound has been characterized as "post-post-rage" and as a "symphony of stimuli."

His lyrics frequently address drug use, sudden fame, and complicated romantic experiences. The music video and visual identity surrounding Bad Ass Fcking Kid* used deliberately provocative imagery, including a baby holding a cigarette and religious symbolism. Nettspend has named Chief Keef, Lil Uzi Vert, Young Thug, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, and Michael Jackson among his influences.

His later work included the two-track EP Gone Too Soon in August 2025, the single "Impact" with Xaviersobased, and the studio album Early Life Crisis, released on March 6, 2026.
