Michael Iskander

Iskander was born in Egypt and moved to the United States at the age of nine. He grew up in a faith-centered household and was baptized into the Coptic Orthodox Church, remaining involved in church life during his childhood.

Portraying David in House of David deepened his understanding of biblical narratives and influenced his personal faith. In 2025, he announced his conversion to Catholicism.

Iskander began acting and singing in high school after a friend encouraged him to audition for the choir. He later appeared in school musicals and gained early recognition in 2019 as Usnavi in a high school production of In the Heights.

His performance in In the Heights earned him the Spirit of the M.A.C.Y. Award for Best Actor and a Special Recognition Award at the Jimmy Awards. He made his Broadway debut in 2022 as Aaron Puckett in Kimberly Akimbo, which won the Tony Award for Best Musical in 2023.

In 2025, Iskander made his screen-acting debut as David in the Prime Video series House of David. The series follows David's rise from shepherd to monarch, and Iskander's performance brought him the Movieguide Award for Most Inspiring Performance.

He starred alongside Ali Suliman and Ayelet Zurer. The role also shaped his view of David as a multifaceted and relatable biblical figure.

Iskander is a singer-songwriter whose music includes the 2021 single "I Know." He also contributed to the original Broadway cast recording of Kimberly Akimbo.

He collaborated with Gabby Barrett on "Lead Me To The Water," a song featured on House of David: Season One (Music Inspired by the Prime Video Original Series).
