Laura Wright is an American actress known for playing Carly Corinthos on ABC's General Hospital. She is also recognized for her roles as Ally Rescott on Loving and The City, and Cassie Layne Winslow on Guiding Light. Wright won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for General Hospital in 2011.

Personal life

Laura Wright was married to architect John Wright from October 1995 until 2016. They have two children, daughter Lauren Elizabeth and son John Michael.

Wright has been in a relationship with her former General Hospital co-star Wes Ramsey since 2017. They first met several years earlier while working together on Guiding Light.

From Loving to Guiding Light

Wright began acting in school productions, including Gypsy, Our Town, and You Can't Take It with You. She also directed a production of Father Says No. After high school, she worked at her parents' gas station and took an acting class. A videotape from the class led to a screen test for the ABC daytime drama Loving.

Using her maiden name, Laura Sisk, she joined Loving in 1991 as Ally Rescott. She continued playing the character on the show's spin-off, The City, from 1995 to 1997. In 1997, she joined Guiding Light as Cassie Layne Winslow, a role she played until 2005. Her performance earned her the 1998 Soap Opera Digest Award for Favorite New Character.

Carly Corinthos on General Hospital

Wright joined General Hospital in November 2005 as Carly Corinthos, succeeding Jennifer Bransford. She became the fourth actress to play the character. Wright's first episode aired the day after her final episode of Guiding Light.

Her work as Carly earned Wright the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 2011. She later received nominations in the category in 2012, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2022, and 2025. She also won Soap Hub Awards for Favorite Actress from General Hospital in 2020 and 2021, as well as Favorite Feud in 2021.

Film and television appearances

In addition to her daytime soap roles, Wright guest-starred as a dance teacher on the VH1 series Hit the Floor in 2013. She appeared in the 2015 film Joy as Clarinda, alongside her General Hospital co-stars Maurice Benard and Donna Mills.

Wright played Dr. Lori Hanson in the 2018 Lifetime television film Deadly Patient, also released under the title Stalked by My Patient. She has also received producer credits for the projects Taste Life and Slate.
