Jared Goff

Goff has an enzyme deficiency that prevents his body from properly breaking down proteins, resulting in an inability to process red meat.

He met model Christen Harper on the celebrity dating app Raya. Harper is known for co-winning the 2021 Sports Illustrated Swim Search and earning co-rookie of the year honors for the magazine's 2022 swimsuit issue. The pair announced their engagement in June 2022 and married on June 22, 2024, in Ojai, California. They welcomed a daughter in July 2025.

Outside of football, Goff launched his personal clothing brand, JG16, in 2019. He collaborated through the brand to establish the Detroit Foundation, which helps fund college scholarships. In 2024, he partnered with Give Merit's FATE program at the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy to provide four-year university scholarships for local high school students. In March 2020, he contributed $250,000 to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank during the coronavirus pandemic.

Goff was raised in Novato, California. His father, Jerry Goff, played collegiate baseball at Cal before playing six seasons in Major League Baseball as a catcher for the Montreal Expos, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Detroit Tigers. Growing up as a San Francisco 49ers fan, Goff wore jersey number 16 in honor of Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana. At Marin Catholic High School in Kentfield, California, he compiled 7,687 passing yards and 93 touchdowns across three varsity seasons.

Enrolling early at the University of California, Berkeley in January 2013, Goff earned the starting quarterback position under head coach Sonny Dykes. He became the first true freshman in Cal history to start a season opener. Across his three collegiate seasons from 2013 to 2015, he started all 37 games and set 26 school records, including career passing yards (12,220) and touchdown passes (96).

During his 2015 junior campaign, Goff threw for 4,714 yards and 43 touchdowns, setting single-season Pac-12 Conference records in both categories. He earned first-team All-Pac-12 honors and was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2015 Armed Forces Bowl after throwing six touchdown passes in a 55-36 victory against Air Force. He chose to forgo his senior season to enter the NFL draft.

The Los Angeles Rams acquired the first overall pick of the 2016 NFL draft through a trade with the Tennessee Titans and selected Goff. He made his professional debut in November of his rookie season, starting the final seven games. Following the hiring of head coach Sean McVay in 2017, Goff had a breakout second season, throwing for 3,804 yards and 28 touchdowns while leading the Rams to their first NFC West title since 2003. He received the PFWA Most Improved Player award and his first Pro Bowl selection.

In 2018, Goff threw for 4,688 yards and 32 touchdowns as the Rams finished with a 13-3 regular-season record. In Week 4 against the Minnesota Vikings, he achieved a perfect 158.3 passer rating while passing for 465 yards and five touchdowns. Later that season, he led the Rams to a 54-51 win over the Kansas City Chiefs in one of the highest-scoring games in league history. In the postseason, Goff guided Los Angeles to an overtime victory against the New Orleans Saints in the NFC Championship Game, becoming the youngest quarterback to win an NFC title game, before starting in Super Bowl LIII against the New England Patriots.

Goff started every game in 2019 and led the league with 626 pass attempts while throwing for 4,638 yards. In 2020, his final year in Los Angeles, he led the Rams back to the postseason and won a wild-card playoff matchup against the Seattle Seahawks despite playing through a broken thumb.

In March 2021, the Rams traded Goff, along with multiple future draft picks, to the Detroit Lions in exchange for quarterback Matthew Stafford. During his first season in Detroit, Goff led the Lions to three victories over their final four games, including a last-second win over the Minnesota Vikings to snap a 15-game franchise winless streak.

Under head coach Dan Campbell, Goff guided the Lions through a significant turnaround. In 2022, he threw 29 touchdowns against seven interceptions and earned his third career Pro Bowl selection. The following year, Goff threw for 4,575 yards and 30 touchdowns as Detroit captured its first division title since 1993. In the 2023 postseason, he led Detroit to a 24-23 victory over his former team, the Rams, securing the franchise's first playoff win since 1991, before advancing to the NFC Championship Game.

During a September 2024 game against the Seattle Seahawks, Goff completed all 18 of his pass attempts for 292 yards and two touchdowns, setting an NFL record for the most attempts in a game without an incompletion while also catching a touchdown pass. He finished the 2024 campaign with career highs in touchdown passes (37), completion percentage (72.4%), and passer rating (111.8), leading Detroit to a franchise-best 15-2 regular-season record and the top seed in the NFC.
