Jade Castrinos

Castrinos and Alex Ebert were romantically involved when Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros formed in 2007. They later ended their relationship while continuing to work together musically, including on "Home."

Their personal and professional partnership became closely associated with the band's early sound. Castrinos has kept much of her personal life private since leaving the group.

Castrinos began writing songs and performing with her father, George Castrinos, in his band, The Black Cherrys. She was 11 when she started playing in the band, an experience she later described as helping her discover her voice.

Before her work with Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, she was active in Los Angeles's indie and arts scene.

Castrinos met Alex Ebert in Los Angeles in 2007, and their collaboration led to the formation of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. She performed as a guitarist and singer and became an early defining member of the indie-folk collective.

Castrinos and Ebert shared lead vocals on "Home," one of the band's best-known songs. She also performed on material including "40 Day Dream," "That's What's Up," "Better Days," and "Man on Fire."

She left the band in 2014. Castrinos said she had been voted off the tour by email a week before it began, while the band later said that she had quit after being asked to sit out one tour.

After leaving the band, Castrinos pursued solo music and collaborated with Jakob Dylan on Echo in the Canyon, a documentary-concert project about the 1960s Laurel Canyon music scene. She appeared as herself in the 2019 film and supplied the lead vocal on the soundtrack's opening track, a cover of the Mamas and the Papas' "Go Where You Wanna Go."

In May 2019, she performed "Go Where You Wanna Go" and "Dedicated to the One I Love" with Dylan and the Echo in the Canyon band on Jimmy Kimmel Live! She also collaborated with Treehouse on the 2015 song "When I Saw You."

Castrinos has songwriting credits for "Home" in films and television programs including Stuck in Love, What to Expect When You're Expecting, The Book of Life, Focus, Glee, The Voice, and Marry Me. The song also appears in The Family Plan and A Perfect Pairing.

Her music combines indie folk, alternative rock, and soulful acoustic elements, with her soulful vocals and guitar playing central to her recorded work.
