Freddie Freeman

Freeman has been married to Chelsea Freeman since 2014. The couple has three sons and a daughter. His youngest son, Maximus, was diagnosed with Guillain, Barré syndrome in 2024, and Freeman missed games to care for him during the illness.

Freeman's mother, Rosemary, died of melanoma when he was 10. He wears a long-sleeved shirt during games to honor her memory. His parents were born in Ontario, Canada, giving Freeman dual Canadian and American citizenship.

Freeman grew up in Villa Park, California, and attended El Modena High School in Orange. He played first base during his first three high-school seasons before moving to pitcher and third baseman as a senior. In 2007, he hit .417 and posted a 6-1 record as a pitcher, earning Orange County Register player of the year honors.

The Atlanta Braves selected Freeman in the second round of the 2007 Major League Baseball draft. He had committed to California State University, Fullerton, but signed with the Braves instead. He progressed through the Gulf Coast Braves, Rome Braves, Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Mississippi Braves, and Gwinnett Braves before reaching the majors.

Freeman made his Major League Baseball debut with Atlanta on September 1, 2010. In his first full season, he hit .282 with 21 home runs and 76 runs batted in, finishing second to teammate Craig Kimbrel in National League Rookie of the Year voting. He won National League Rookie of the Month honors in July 2011 after leading rookies in hits, batting average, home runs, runs, and runs batted in during the month.

Freeman became an All-Star for the first time in 2013 after hitting .319 with 23 home runs and 109 runs batted in. He later won the National League Gold Glove Award at first base in 2018 and three consecutive Silver Slugger Awards from 2019 through 2021. In 2020, during the shortened season, he hit .341 with 13 home runs and 53 runs batted in and won the National League MVP Award, the Hank Aaron Award, and the Silver Slugger Award.

In 2021, Freeman helped the Braves win the World Series over the Houston Astros. He hit .300 with 31 home runs during the regular season and delivered a go-ahead home run in Game 5 of the World Series. He also received the Babe Ruth Award for his postseason performance.

After 12 seasons with Atlanta, Freeman became a free agent following the 2021 season. He signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2022 and returned to Southern California. His first home run as a Dodger came against the Braves at Dodger Stadium, and he received an emotional ovation when Los Angeles visited Atlanta later that season.

Freeman led the National League in hits and doubles in 2022, then produced a career-best 211 hits and a league-leading 59 doubles in 2023. He became the first first baseman in American or National League history to record 200 hits, 20 home runs, and 20 stolen bases in one season. He also reached 300 career home runs and 2,000 career hits in 2023.

In the 2024 World Series against the New York Yankees, Freeman hit the first walk-off grand slam in World Series history. He homered in each of the first four games, set a record by homering in six consecutive World Series games, and tied the World Series record with 12 runs batted in. The Dodgers won the championship in five games, and Freeman was named World Series MVP.

Freeman helped the Dodgers win another World Series in 2025. In Game 3, he hit a walk-off home run in the 18th inning against the Toronto Blue Jays, becoming the first player with multiple walk-off home runs in World Series history.

Freeman represents Canada in international baseball to honor his mother's Canadian heritage. He played for Canada in the 2017 and 2023 World Baseball Classics. He had previously represented the United States at the 2005 World Youth Baseball Championship, where the team won a silver medal.
