
Ella Bruccoleri is an English actress and singer known for playing Sister Frances in the BBC One period drama Call the Midwife and starring as Mary Bennet in The Other Bennet Sister. She is also the lead vocalist and co-founder of the dream pop band Marry Me Emelie!.
Personal background and education
Bruccoleri was born into an Italian Catholic family and grew up in Scarborough, Yorkshire. She attended a Catholic upbringing during her youth before becoming agnostic at age 18. She is not married.
After completing her secondary education, Bruccoleri lived in Paris, where she attended a mime school and began performing on the local open-mic circuit. She subsequently trained in acting at the Oxford School of Drama, graduating in 2017.

Bruccoleri made early television appearances in 2018 with guest roles in Genius: Picasso and The Last Kingdom. Later that year, she joined the cast of the BBC One drama Call the Midwife as Sister Frances, a shy young nun and midwife stationed at Nonnatus House. Following her departure from Call the Midwife, Bruccoleri appeared in a variety of television series, including Back to Life, All Creatures Great and Small, Hotel Portofino, The Chelsea Detective, and the Disney+ superhero comedy Extraordinary. In 2024, she played the debutante Winifred Barragan in season three of Netflix's Bridgerton, starred as Ali Day in the ITV thriller Passenger, and appeared in the BBC One crime series Ludwig. On the big screen, Bruccoleri featured in the 2023 action comedy Polite Society and played Sister Rosita in Paddington in Peru (2024). She portrayed Jasmine (Dollface) in Renny Harlin's horror film trilogy The Strangers: Chapter 1, Chapter 2, and Chapter 3, and appeared in the Netflix medical drama Joy. Music and Marry Me Emelie!
Alongside her screen work, Bruccoleri is the frontwoman and songwriter for the dream pop band Marry Me Emelie!, which she co-founded with French musician Yoan Segot. The pair initially met while performing in Paris before relocating to London. Their creative partnership continued following the conclusion of their 13-year romantic relationship, with their shared history informing their early songwriting.
The project later expanded into a five-piece outfit with guitarist Adam Gardner and bassist Chloe Foy. Marry Me Emelie! released their debut single, "I Have a Lark," in late 2024, followed in April 2025 by the self-produced debut EP the distance makes the mountains blue. In June 2026, the group followed up with the single "Flowers."
Stage and other ventures
Bruccoleri has maintained an active stage career alongside her television roles. Her theatre credits include productions of Springstorm at The North Wall Arts Theatre, Islanders and The Virgins at Soho Theatre in London, and The Noble Nine at the VAULT Festival.
Outside of traditional acting and musical releases, Bruccoleri co-manages a spoof travel influencer account on Instagram, @etoztravel, alongside comedian Zoe Dunn.
