Draymond Green

Green is the son of Mary Babers and Wallace Davis and grew up in Saginaw, Michigan, with his stepfather Raymond Green. He has two brothers, Torrian Harris and Braylon Green, and three sisters, LaToya Babers, Jordan Davis, and Gabby Davis. His brother Torrian played college basketball for Nebraska-Omaha. Green completed his college education at Michigan State University, graduating in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in communication.

Green has a son with his former partner Jelissa Hardy. In 2018, he began dating actress Hazel Renee; the couple announced their engagement in 2019, welcomed a daughter in 2020, and held their wedding ceremony on August 14, 2022, in Malibu, California.

In September 2015, Green pledged a $3.1 million donation to Michigan State University to support athletics facilities and fund an endowment program for scholarships, representing the largest donation from an athlete in the university's history.

Green played four seasons of college basketball for the Michigan State Spartans under head coach Tom Izzo after leading Saginaw High School to consecutive Michigan Class A state titles. As a freshman during the 2008-2009 season, he came off the bench in 37 games as the Spartans reached the NCAA national championship game. By his sophomore year, Green earned Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year honors by a unanimous vote, becoming the first Spartan in program history to win the award.

Over his junior and senior seasons, Green emerged as one of the most versatile forwards in college basketball. In 2011, he joined Charlie Bell and Magic Johnson as the third player in Michigan State history to record a triple-double. As a senior in 2011-2012, Green captained Michigan State to the Big Ten regular-season and tournament championships, earning Big Ten Player of the Year and tournament Most Outstanding Player honors.

Green concluded his collegiate career as Michigan State's all-time leading rebounder with 1,096 career rebounds and was named the 2012 NABC National Player of the Year as well as a consensus first-team All-American. He joined Oscar Robertson and Magic Johnson as the only players in NCAA history to post multiple triple-doubles in the NCAA tournament. Michigan State retired his No. 23 jersey in December 2019.

The Golden State Warriors selected Green with the 35th overall pick in the second round of the 2012 NBA draft. After spending his first two seasons primarily in a reserve role, he entered the starting lineup during the 2014-2015 season under head coach Steve Kerr. Green flourished as an undersized center in the Warriors' famous "Death Lineup," providing exceptional floor spacing, playmaking, and switchable perimeter and post defense. He capped the 2015 playoffs by recording a triple-double in Game 6 of the NBA Finals to secure Golden State's first championship in 40 years.

During the 2015-2016 season, Green earned his first All-Star selection and an All-NBA Second Team nod as the Warriors set an NBA regular-season record with 73 wins. That season, he became the first player in league history to record at least 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 500 assists, 100 steals, and 100 blocks in a single campaign. In 2016-2017, Green won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award and led the league in steals, helping lead the team to another title alongside Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant.

On February 10, 2017, Green registered a historic triple-double against the Memphis Grizzlies with 12 rebounds, 10 assists, and 10 steals while scoring only four points, marking the first triple-double in NBA history with fewer than 10 points scored. He captured two more NBA championships with Golden State in 2018 and 2022, securing his fourth title with a near triple-double in Game 6 of the 2022 Finals against the Boston Celtics.

Throughout his career, Green has been known for an aggressive physical style that has drawn frequent disciplinary action from the league, accumulating the second-most ejections in NBA history behind Rasheed Wallace. During Game 4 of the 2016 NBA Finals, an altercation with LeBron James resulted in a retroactive flagrant foul, triggering an automatic suspension for Game 5.

In October 2022, Green was fined by the Warriors following a preseason practice altercation in which he struck teammate Jordan Poole. During the 2023-2024 season, Green served a five-game suspension for placing Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert in a chokehold during an on-court skirmish. A month later, after striking Phoenix Suns center Jusuf Nurkic in the face, the NBA issued Green an indefinite suspension, resulting in a 12-game absence before his reinstatement in January 2024.

Green represented the United States men's national basketball team at two Olympic Games, winning gold medals in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and Tokyo in 2021. He served as a defensive specialist and frontcourt distributor during both gold-medal runs.

Alongside his playing career, Green established a significant presence in sports media. In November 2021, he launched his podcast, The Draymond Green Show. In January 2022, he signed a multiyear agreement with Turner Sports to serve as an active-player contributor and analyst on TNT's Inside the NBA.
