Don Cheto

Don Cheto has hosted Don Cheto Al Aire, a Spanish-language morning radio program based at Estrella Media's Que Buena Los Angeles. The weekday show airs from 6 to 10 a.m. and combines humorous takes on current events with música mexicana, listener calls, entertainment news, and conversations about everyday concerns. Its co-hosts have included Giselle Bravo, Said Garcia Solis, and El Chino.

The program became one of the largest nationally syndicated Spanish-language morning shows in the United States and Mexico, reaching 33 affiliate stations. It was the most listened-to radio station among adults ages 18 to 49 in Los Angeles during March, September, and October 2023, surpassing several English-language stations. The show has also maintained a strong audience in agricultural cities such as Fresno and Bakersfield.

Don Cheto's familiar working-class character has given his radio program a role beyond entertainment. In the 2024 election cycle, Don Cheto Al Aire addressed immigration, healthcare, education, and other issues affecting Spanish-speaking and working-class communities.

The show partnered with National Voter Registration Day and featured labor rights activist Dolores Huerta in a discussion about voter registration. It also worked with Poder Latinx, a nonpartisan nonprofit focused on building civic power and connecting politics with the daily experiences of Latino communities.

Don Cheto began releasing music with the album Hablando por lo Claro in 2003. His subsequent recordings included Piporreando (2004), El Hombre del Vozarrón/El Chancho Frijolero (2005), El Gran Show de Don Cheto y Sus Amigos (2007), El KTME de Ustedes (2009), and El Amigo del Pueblo (2010). He also released Tueniwan 21 in 2016.

His music often uses comedy, parody, and character-based storytelling. His 2004 appearance on Yolanda Pérez's song “Estoy Enamorada” presented him as the singer's angry father. Pepe Garza, an early executive supporter, encouraged the development of Don Cheto's music and helped him build a broader media identity around the character.

Don Cheto appears as himself in Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online. In the games, he is one of the hosts of the Spanish-language radio station East Los FM, alongside Mexican Institute of Sound founder and DJ Camilo Lara.

The game appearance introduced Don Cheto's character to an audience beyond Spanish-language radio and television. His song “El Tatuado” is included on East Los FM, while other recordings associated with the character include “El Cholo de PlayStation” and the parody “Ganga Style.”

El Show de Don Cheto is a Spanish-language television variety program associated with Channel 62 in Los Angeles and sister stations operated by Lieberman Broadcasting. The hour-long show featured games, a live guitar band, and comedy segments.

Don Cheto's television work expanded the character beyond his morning radio format. He also served as a judge on Tengo Talento, Mucho Talento, a long-running Spanish-language talent competition in the United States.
