Thornton has been married six times and has four children. He was married to Melissa Lee Gatlin from 1978 to 1980, Toni Lawrence from 1986 to 1988, Cynda Williams from 1990 to 1992, Pietra Dawn Cherniak from 1993 to 1997, and Angelina Jolie from 2000 to 2003. He has been married to Connie Angland since 2014, and they have a daughter.
