Sterre Meijer

Sterre Meijer was born on 22 December 2004 in Renesse, Zeeland, Netherlands, and was raised near Brouwersdam, a popular location for surfing, windsurfing, and kitesurfing. She is also known online by the aliases Surfsterre, Freestylegirl, and Skatergirl.

Her early interest in board sports was influenced by her brother, Tijmen Meijer. She began windsurfing at six and later developed interests in swimming, skateboarding, surfing, and longboard dancing.

Meijer began competing in windsurfing at a young age and entered her first European Freestyle Pro Tour competition in 2017, when she was 12. She has also competed in the Professional Windsurfers Association and developed a repertoire that includes shakas, shove-its, spocks, flakes, Vulcans, grubbies, punetas, funnels, and switch konos.

She took up skateboarding during periods when there was not enough wind for windsurfing. She used it to train her balance and muscles, and described the sport as helping her develop perseverance. Her skateboarding competitions have included the Dutch Street Women's Championships, Best Foot Forward events, and Damn Am Netherlands qualifiers.

In June 2024, Meijer appeared in the Olympic Channel's original series Skate-Hers. The episode followed her skateboarding activities, challenges, and progress while presenting her as a prominent social media figure in women's skateboarding.

In the episode, she discussed her preference for individual sports and explained how her social media presence developed unexpectedly after her content went viral. She said the growth gave her an opportunity to pursue skateboarding and earn money through her own work.
