Meghan Trainor

Meghan Trainor married actor Daryl Sabara on December 22, 2018, at their home in Los Angeles. They began dating in 2016 after being introduced through their mutual friend Chloë Grace Moretz and became engaged in December 2017.

Trainor and Sabara have three children. Their first son, Riley, was born in February 2021, their second son, Barry Bruce, was born in July 2023, and their daughter was born via surrogate in January 2026.

Trainor grew up on Nantucket Island in a musical family. She began singing at church with her father, Gary Trainor, who was a music teacher and church organist, and started writing songs as a child. Her uncle Burton Toney was a recording artist and soca performer, adding Caribbean music to the musical influences around her.

At age 12, Trainor began performing with the local band Island Fusion, which included her father, aunt, and younger brother. She sang, played piano, guitar, and bongo drums, and also performed in a jazz band at Nauset Regional High School while studying guitar and trumpet. She attended Berklee College of Music's Summer Performance Program in 2009 and 2010, reaching the finals of its songwriting competition.

Between ages 15 and 17, Trainor independently recorded and released three albums. She signed with Nashville publishing company Big Yellow Dog Music at 18 and began writing songs for other performers, including Rascal Flatts, Hunter Hayes, R5, and Sabrina Carpenter.

Trainor co-wrote "All About That Bass" with producer Kevin Kadish in 2013. After several record labels declined to have other artists record the song, Trainor performed it for Epic Records chairman L.A. Reid, who signed her shortly afterward. Released in June 2014, the song reached number one in 58 countries and spent eight consecutive weeks at the top of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.

The song's success established Trainor's retro-leaning pop style and brought body image and self-acceptance themes into her mainstream songwriting. It also prompted criticism of some lyrics and accusations of cultural appropriation. Trainor's first major-label EP, Title, followed in September 2014, while the full-length album Title was released in January 2015 and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200.

The album produced further successful singles, including "Lips Are Movin," "Dear Future Husband," and "Like I'm Gonna Lose You." Trainor also appeared on Charlie Puth's debut single "Marvin Gaye," which featured her vocals, and began her first headlining tour in 2015.

Trainor canceled the remainder of her 2015 North American tour after experiencing vocal cord hemorrhaging. She underwent surgery in September 2015 and later had a second vocal cord operation. The condition temporarily interrupted the touring cycle for Title.

She returned to major award-show performances in 2016 and won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards. Her second major-label album, Thank You, was released in 2016 and debuted at number three on the Billboard 200. Its lead single, "No," reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100, while "Me Too" reached number 13.

Trainor supported the album with The Untouchable Tour. She also co-wrote songs for artists including Jennifer Lopez and Little Mix, and collaborated with her mother, Kelli Trainor, on the song "Mom."

Trainor delayed the release of Treat Myself so she could continue writing and recording. She issued the EP The Love Train in February 2019, then released Treat Myself in January 2020. The album included "Nice to Meet Ya," featuring Nicki Minaj, and incorporated electronic dance music and funk influences.

She followed it with the holiday album A Very Trainor Christmas in October 2020. Later releases included Takin' It Back in 2022, which featured the single "Made You Look," and Timeless in 2024. "Made You Look" reached the top five in several countries and number 11 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, while Timeless reached number 27 on the Billboard 200.

Trainor began the Timeless Tour in September 2024, her first headlining concert tour in more than seven years. Her seventh studio album, Toy with Me, was released in April 2026.

Trainor expanded into television as a judge on The Four: Battle for Stardom in 2018. She later served as a coach on The Voice UK in 2020 and as a judge on Australian Idol in 2023. She has also appeared on programs including The Voice, Songland, Password, and Drop the Mic.

Her film work includes voice roles as Smurfmelody in Smurfs: The Lost Village and as the Fairy Godmother in Playmobil: The Movie. She contributed songs to films including The Peanuts Movie and The Hustle. In 2021, she signed an overall deal with NBCUniversal and launched the podcast Workin' on It with her brother Ryan Trainor.

Trainor published Dear Future Mama, a book about pregnancy, birth, and motherhood, in 2023.

Trainor's music combines pop, R&B, doo-wop, blue-eyed soul, reggae, soca, and hip hop. Her retro sound draws heavily on 1950s and 1960s popular music, with influences including Frank Sinatra, Aretha Franklin, Elvis Presley, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Phil Collins, Bruno Mars, Beyoncé, and Christina Aguilera.

She plays piano, guitar, ukulele, trumpet, bass, keyboards, and percussion. Her lyrics frequently address womanhood, body image, self-acceptance, and personal empowerment. Critics have debated whether some of her early songs reinforce traditional gender roles, while Trainor later identified herself as a feminist and continued using empowerment and women's rights themes in her music.
