Mike Evans

Evans was raised in Galveston, Texas, by his mother, Heather Kilgore, who gave birth to him when she was 14 years old. His childhood was shaped by domestic violence, as his father, Mickey, physically abused Kilgore. When Evans was nine years old, his maternal uncle killed Mickey in retaliation for the abuse.

Drawing on his upbringing, Evans and his wife, Ashli, established the Mike Evans Family Foundation in December 2017 to support victims of domestic violence and assist youth. The foundation hosts free football and basketball camps for children in his hometown of Galveston. Evans and his wife have four children.

At Ball High School in Galveston, Evans was a multi-sport athlete competing in football, basketball, and track and field. He played varsity football only during his senior season, recording 25 receptions for 648 yards and seven touchdowns, which earned him second-team District 24-4A honors. In basketball, he averaged 18.3 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 5.2 assists as a senior, while in track and field he competed in sprints, relays, long jump, and triple jump.

Evans attended Texas A&M University, redshirting his first year in 2011 before taking the field for the Aggies in 2012. As a freshman, he caught 82 passes for 1,105 yards and five touchdowns, receiving freshman All-SEC honors. During his sophomore season in 2013, Evans had standout performances, including catching seven passes for 279 yards against Alabama and setting a school single-game record with 287 receiving yards and four touchdowns against Auburn. He finished 2013 with 69 receptions for 1,394 yards and 12 touchdowns, earning first-team All-SEC and consensus first-team All-American honors before entering the NFL draft.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected Evans seventh overall in the 2014 NFL draft, making him and teammate Jake Matthews the first Texas A&M duo taken in the top seven of the same draft since 1941. In his rookie campaign, Evans posted 68 receptions for 1,051 yards and 12 touchdowns, earning PFWA All-Rookie Team honors and teaming with Vincent Jackson to become the franchise's first pair of 1,000-yard receivers in the same season. That November, at 21 years and 87 days old, he became the youngest player in NFL history to register a 200-yard receiving game.

Over the following decade, Evans established one of the most consistent receiving careers in league history. In 2018, he recorded a franchise-record 1,524 receiving yards and surpassed Mark Carrier to become Tampa Bay's all-time receiving yards leader. He continued his streak of 1,000-yard seasons and earned six Pro Bowl selections. During the 2020 season, Evans helped lead the Buccaneers to a victory in Super Bowl LV over the Kansas City Chiefs, securing his first championship title. In 2021, he broke Mike Alstott's franchise touchdown record and caught Tom Brady's 600th career touchdown pass.

Evans tied for the NFL lead with 13 receiving touchdowns in 2023 and earned his second career Second-team All-Pro honor. In the 2024 season, he caught his 100th career receiving touchdown, becoming the eleventh player in league history to hit that milestone. On the final play of the 2024 regular season, Evans reached 1,004 receiving yards, securing his 11th consecutive 1,000-yard season to begin his career and tying Jerry Rice's NFL record for the most consecutive 1,000-yard seasons overall. Evans concluded his 12-year tenure in Tampa Bay holding team career records with 866 receptions, 13,052 receiving yards, and 108 touchdowns.

Following an injury-shortened 2025 season with Tampa Bay in which he was limited to eight games, Evans entered free agency. On March 12, 2026, he signed a three-year contract worth up to $42.4 million with the San Francisco 49ers.
