Lando Norris

Norris began karting at the age of seven after developing an early interest in motorsport. His father, Adam Norris, supported his development and encouraged him to compete in both KF and Rotax karting categories, exposing him to different equipment and tyre types. His older brother Oliver also began competing in karting around the same time.

Norris won the 2013 CIK-FIA European KF-Junior Championship and the 2014 CIK-FIA KF World Championship. His 2014 victory made him the youngest winner of the world championship in that category, breaking a record previously held by Lewis Hamilton.

Norris moved into car racing in 2014 in the Ginetta Junior Championship, finishing third and taking the top rookie honours. In 2015 he joined Carlin for the inaugural MSA Formula Championship and won the drivers’ title, while also gaining experience in Italian and German Formula 4.

His 2016 campaign produced titles in the Toyota Racing Series, Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 and Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup. He also received the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award for young driver of the year. In 2017, racing for Carlin, Norris won the European Formula 3 Championship and became the youngest F3 Drivers’ Championship winner in the competition’s history.

McLaren added him to its young driver programme in 2017 and appointed him as its test and reserve driver for 2018. He finished runner-up to George Russell in the 2018 FIA Formula 2 Championship and shared the 24 Hours of Daytona grid with Fernando Alonso.

McLaren announced Norris as one of its Formula 1 drivers for 2019, alongside Carlos Sainz Jr. He made his debut at the Australian Grand Prix at the age of 19 and finished 11th in the drivers’ standings during his rookie season. Norris out-qualified Sainz more often across the season, while their partnership coincided with McLaren finishing fourth in the constructors’ standings.

Norris took his first F1 podium at the 2020 Austrian Grand Prix. His 2020 online streaming became popular with motorsport fans during the disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic, and he launched the esports and content brand Team Quadrant that year. In 2021 he recorded four podium finishes and his first pole position at the Russian Grand Prix.

After McLaren replaced Daniel Ricciardo with Oscar Piastri for the 2023 season, Norris became the team’s senior driver. He finished second at the 2023 British Grand Prix and again at the Hungarian Grand Prix after McLaren introduced a major car update.

Before winning a Grand Prix, Norris accumulated 15 podium finishes, the highest total recorded by an F1 driver without a victory. He ended that wait at the 2024 Miami Grand Prix, his 110th F1 race, and won three more races during the season. He finished second in the drivers’ championship behind Max Verstappen and helped McLaren secure its first constructors’ title in 26 years.

McLaren remained the leading team for much of the 2025 season, with Norris and teammate Oscar Piastri competing for the drivers’ championship. Norris recovered ground after being outperformed by Piastri early in the year and entered the final race weekend in Abu Dhabi in contention with Piastri and Verstappen.

Norris finished third in Abu Dhabi, behind Verstappen and Piastri, which was enough to secure his first Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship. McLaren also won the constructors’ championship for a second consecutive season.
