Josh Hutcherson

Hutcherson has been in a relationship with actress Claudia Traisac since 2013. He dated actress Vanessa Hudgens in 2011 after they co-starred in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.

He is an advocate for LGBTQ rights and has supported the campaign Straight But Not Narrow. He received GLAAD's Vanguard Award in 2012 and worked with The Trevor Project and Human-I-T on the Power On campaign, which helped young LGBTQ people in rural areas connect with community resources. Hutcherson has described himself as "mostly straight" and has said that he does not believe in being limited by labels.

Hutcherson began auditioning at age nine and moved with his family to Los Angeles to pursue acting. His early television work included House Blend, Becoming Glen, and ER. His first feature-film appearance was as Robin in American Splendor in 2003, followed by a motion-capture performance as Hero Boy in The Polar Express and the voice of Markl in the English version of Howl's Moving Castle.

His early film roles included Walter Budwing in Zathura: A Space Adventure, Gabe Burton in Little Manhattan, Carl Munro in RV, and Jesse Aarons in Bridge to Terabithia. He won Young Artist Awards for his performances in Zathura and Bridge to Terabithia. He later played Sean Anderson in Journey to the Center of the Earth and Laser Allgood in The Kids Are All Right, the latter film featuring Annette Bening, Julianne Moore, Mark Ruffalo, and Mia Wasikowska.

In 2011, Hutcherson was cast as Peeta Mellark in The Hunger Games, based on Suzanne Collins's novels. He was 18 when he landed the role and played opposite Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen and Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne. For the part, he bleached his hair and gained 15 pounds.

Hutcherson reprised Peeta in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1, and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2. The first film became one of the year's biggest box-office successes, and Hutcherson won MTV Movie Awards for Best Male Performance and Best Fight. He and his co-stars also won the People's Choice Award for Favorite On-Screen Chemistry. He is scheduled to reprise Peeta in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.

After The Hunger Games, Hutcherson took on independent films and expanded his work behind the camera. He served as an executive producer on Detention, The Forger, and Escobar: Paradise Lost, while also playing a leading role in each project. He directed the short film Ape and directed music videos for West Coast Massive and Foster the People.

From 2017 to 2020, he starred as Josh Futturman in the Hulu science-fiction comedy series Future Man, which was produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. He also voiced Shinjiro Hayata in the English version of the animated Netflix series Ultraman from 2019 to 2023. His later film roles included Franklin Fausti in 57 Seconds, Mike Schmidt in Five Nights at Freddy's, and Derek Danforth in The Beekeeper.

Hutcherson played Mike Schmidt again in Five Nights at Freddy's 2 and appeared as Dylan in the HBO comedy series I Love LA. He also appeared in Long Gone Heroes, Let's Love, and Signal One. His work in I Love LA, The Beekeeper, and the Five Nights at Freddy's films was associated with a renewed period of attention for his career.

In addition to acting, Hutcherson has continued to work in voice performance, short films, and music videos. His awards include four Young Artist Awards, three MTV Movie Awards, four Teen Choice Awards, a CinemaCon Breakthrough Performer of the Year Award, and the GLAAD Vanguard Award.
