Jalen Ramsey

Ramsey is the son of Lamont and Margie Ramsey and has an older brother, Jamal Ramsey, who also played football. Lamont worked as a District Chief in the fire department and later became Jalen's training coach. Ramsey is a Christian and frequently discusses his faith on social media.

Ramsey and Breanna Tate had two daughters, one born in July 2018 and another born in September 2019. The pair had separated earlier in 2019.

Ramsey attended Ensworth High School before transferring to Brentwood Academy in Tennessee, where he became a standout in football and track and field. He was rated a five-star recruit by Rivals and Scout and was regarded as one of the top overall prospects in his class.

At Florida State, Ramsey started all 14 games as a true freshman in 2013. He was the first true freshman to start at cornerback for the Seminoles since Deion Sanders in 1985, and he helped Florida State win the BCS National Championship over Auburn. Ramsey also recorded a 23-yard fumble return for a touchdown against Wake Forest.

Ramsey started all 41 games of his college career and became a consensus All-American in 2015. He also won the ACC long-jump title in 2015 and competed on Florida State's conference champion 4x100-meter relay team.

The Jacksonville Jaguars selected Ramsey fifth overall in the 2016 NFL draft, making him the first cornerback chosen and the highest-drafted cornerback in franchise history at that time. He started immediately despite undergoing surgery for a meniscus tear during rookie training camp.

Ramsey finished his rookie season with 65 tackles, 14 pass deflections, two interceptions, and an interception-return touchdown. His 14 pass deflections led all NFL rookies, and he was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team.

His strongest early season came in 2017, when he recorded four interceptions and 17 pass deflections while helping Jacksonville reach the AFC Championship Game. Ramsey made his first Pro Bowl and was named a First-team All-Pro, while the Jaguars ended a 10-year playoff drought.

After a dispute with the Jaguars organization during the 2019 season, Ramsey was traded to the Los Angeles Rams in October. Rams head coach Sean McVay made him the team's No. 1 starting cornerback, pairing him with Troy Hill in the secondary.

Ramsey earned First-team All-Pro honors in both 2020 and 2021. During the 2021 regular season, he recorded 77 tackles, 16 pass deflections, four interceptions, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.

He started for the Rams in Super Bowl LVI against the Cincinnati Bengals, recording four tackles and a pass deflection in Los Angeles's 23-20 victory. The win gave Ramsey his first Super Bowl title. In 2022, he produced career highs of 88 combined tackles and 18 passes defensed while adding four interceptions.

The Dolphins acquired Ramsey from the Rams in March 2023. A torn meniscus kept him out for the opening portion of the season, but he returned in October and intercepted a pass in his Miami debut against the New England Patriots. He recorded three interceptions in 10 games and earned his seventh consecutive Pro Bowl selection.

Ramsey started all 17 games for Miami in 2024, finishing with 60 tackles, 11 passes defensed, two interceptions, and a sack. The Dolphins and Ramsey agreed to explore trade options in April 2025, and he was subsequently traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers with Jonnu Smith.

In his first season with Pittsburgh, Ramsey recorded 88 tackles, three sacks, eight passes defensed, and one interception. He made his first career start at safety in Week 9 and continued in that role for the final nine weeks of the regular season.

Ramsey has been selected to eight Pro Bowls and named a First-team All-Pro three times. Through the 2025 season, he had appeared in 152 regular-season games, including 151 starts, with 622 tackles, 116 passes defensed, 25 interceptions, two fumble recoveries, seven forced fumbles, and six sacks.

His 116 passes defensed were the most among active players who entered the NFL in 2016, while his 25 interceptions ranked tied for fourth among that group. He has also recorded at least two interceptions in a game three times.
