GloRilla

GloRilla was born Gloria Hallelujah Woods and grew up in Memphis's Frayser neighborhood as the eighth of 10 children in a conservative Christian family. Gospel music, including recordings by Kirk Franklin and Donnie McClurkin, was part of her childhood, and she sang in her church choir. She initially wanted to become a singer, but a vocal problem led her toward rap.

She was homeschooled until fifth grade and later attended Melrose High School and Martin Luther King College Preparatory High School. She began rapping at 16, inspired in part by Chief Keef. In 2018, a cousin encouraged her to take her abilities more seriously and helped arrange a professional recording session.

GloRilla released the mixtape Most Likely Up Next in 2019 and the independent EP P Status in 2020. Her breakthrough came in April 2022 with "F.N.F. (Let's Go)," produced with Hitkidd. The song reached number 42 on the Billboard Hot 100 and sparked the #FNFChallenge on TikTok, while remixes featured Latto and JT. Its success brought a Best Rap Performance nomination at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards and helped her win Best New Hip-Hop Artist at the 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards.

In July 2022, she signed with fellow Memphis rapper Yo Gotti's Collective Music Group. Her single "Tomorrow 2," featuring Cardi B, became her first Billboard Hot 100 top-10 hit and earned double-platinum certification from the RIAA. Her debut EP, Anyways, Life's Great, reached number 11 on the Billboard 200. Cardi B is identified as GloRilla's cousin, and their collaboration connected GloRilla's Memphis sound with Cardi B's Bronx drill-influenced approach.

GloRilla's 2024 releases included "Yeah Glo!," "Wanna Be" with Megan Thee Stallion and "TGIF." Her commercial mixtape Ehhthang Ehhthang reached number 18 on the Billboard 200, followed by her debut studio album Glorious, which peaked at number five. The album's singles included "TGIF," "Hollon" and "Whatchu Kno About Me," and she supported the project with the Glorious Tour in 2025.

GloRilla describes her music as "crunk and dominant." Her sound draws on Memphis crunk, trap and Southern hip-hop, combining forceful lyrics with themes and perspectives connected to women's experiences. She has described her music as grounded in real life rather than a manufactured persona.

Her deep, textured Memphis drawl and husky vocal delivery are central to her style. She has cited Chief Keef as an early inspiration and has said that she improved her flow and delivery during the years between her independent releases and the success of "F.N.F. (Let's Go)."

GloRilla won Best New Hip-Hop Artist at the 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards and Best New Hip-Hop Artist at the 2023 iHeartRadio Music Awards. She was selected for the 2023 XXL Freshman Class and received further nominations from the BET Awards, MTV Video Music Awards and Grammy Awards.

In 2025, she won the Billboard Women in Music Powerhouse Award. She also won the Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational Award at the 2025 BET Awards for "Rain Down on Me," a collaboration with Kirk Franklin and Maverick City Music. Her songs "F.N.F. (Let's Go)," "Tomorrow 2," "Yeah Glo!," "Wanna Be" and "TGIF" received recognition at the BMI R&B and Hip Hop Awards.

GloRilla has described her upbringing as strongly shaped by Christianity and gospel music. She has also spoken about the importance of Memphis to her identity and career, regularly emphasizing the city's influence on her sound and musical ambitions.

She donated $25,000 to Martin Luther King College Preparatory High School in 2022. In 2024, she donated another $25,000 to Melrose High School, which was used to create a media center named after her. She began dating NBA player Brandon Ingram in 2025.

In April 2024, GloRilla was arrested and charged with driving under the influence in Gwinnett County, Georgia, after being stopped for making an improper U-turn.

In July 2025, she was briefly arrested on a possession charge after law enforcement responded to a burglary at her Georgia home and found marijuana in a bedroom closet. She was released on bond.
