Brandon Sklenar is an American actor known for film and television roles across historical dramas, independent films, and mainstream productions. He gained wider recognition as Spencer Dutton in the television series 1923 and has appeared in films including Mapplethorpe, Vice, Midway, It Ends with Us, Drop, and The Housemaid.

Early life and education

Brandon Sklenar was born Brandon Tyler Feakins in Dover, New Jersey, and was raised in Northern New Jersey. He graduated from Hackettstown High School in 2008 and briefly enrolled at County College of Morris, where he studied exercise science.

After two months of college, he moved to California and adopted his mother's surname professionally. He settled in Los Angeles, worked a series of odd jobs, and was signed by a manager at age 20.

Mapplethorpe, Vice, and early film roles

Sklenar made his professional film debut in Cornered in 2011. He followed it with appearances in television series including Dating Rules from My Future Self, Truth Be Told, Fall into Me, and New Girl, as well as roles in films such as Chance, Hunky Dory, Bella Donna, and Temple.

His 2018 work brought increased attention. In Mapplethorpe, he portrayed Edward Mapplethorpe, the brother of photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, and appeared opposite Matt Smith. The film premiered in competition at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival, where it was named a runner-up in the U.S. Narrative Competition. Sklenar also played Bobby Prentace in Vice, working with Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Sam Rockwell, and director Adam McKay.

He later appeared in The Big Ugly as Junior Lawford and in Roland Emmerich's Midway as George H. Gay Jr., a real-life World War II torpedo bomber and the sole survivor of Torpedo Squadron 8. His other film work from this period included Jonesin', Indigo Valley, Karen, and Emily the Criminal.

1923 and later roles

In 2022, Sklenar joined the cast of 1923, the Yellowstone prequel series, as Spencer Dutton. The role became his best-known television performance and placed him in a major historical western drama. That year he also appeared in The Offer as Burt Reynolds, Westworld as Henry, and Walker: Independence as Liam Collins.

Sklenar played Atlas Corrigan in It Ends with Us in 2024. His subsequent film roles included Billy in Green and Gold, Henry in Drop, and Andrew Winchester in The Housemaid. He received the Best Actor award at the Vienna Independent Film Festival for his performance as Sean Graves in Futra Days.
