Andrew Tate

Emory Andrew Tate III was born in Washington, D.C., and was raised in the United States before moving to Luton, England, with his mother and younger siblings after his parents divorced. His father, Emory Tate, served in the U.S. Air Force and became an international chess master. Tate attended Halyard High School and Luton Sixth Form College.

Tate has described growing up in Luton in difficult financial circumstances and working at a fish market while attending school. His younger brother, Tristan Tate, later became a professional kickboxer and business associate. The brothers trained together and subsequently worked on several online ventures.

Tate began competing professionally in 2005 under the nickname “King Cobra” while working in television advertising. Between 2011 and 2014, he won four world titles, including three ISKA full-contact championships and an Enfusion K-1 Rules world title at 90 kilograms. He fought out of Storm Gym and competed across light-heavyweight, light-cruiserweight and cruiserweight divisions.

His professional kickboxing record was 76 wins, nine losses and one draw, with 32 victories by stoppage. He also recorded one professional mixed martial arts victory. In December 2016, Tate lost to Ibrahim El Boustati by first-round technical knockout after a recurrence of a retinal injury, and retired from professional kickboxing at age 30 on medical advice. He briefly returned to competition in Romania in 2020 before retiring again.

Tate appeared on the seventeenth series of the British reality television programme Big Brother in 2016 as a member of the secret group known as “The Others.” He presented himself as a strategist and became involved in the group’s attempts to influence nominations and evictions.

He was removed from the programme after six days because of activities outside the house. The decision followed the circulation of a video that appeared to show him striking a woman with a belt. Tate and the woman said the actions were consensual, while Tate argued that the footage had been edited. His appearance brought him wider public attention before his later rise as an internet personality.

After his kickboxing career, Tate developed a series of online businesses and paid membership programmes with Tristan Tate. Hustler’s University offered instruction in areas such as cryptocurrency, copywriting and e-commerce, and used an affiliate programme that encouraged members to recruit others and share Tate-related videos. The programme was later rebranded several times before being replaced by The Real World in October 2022.

Tate also promoted The War Room, a private membership group focused on self-discipline, personal development and networking. Investigations into leaked group messages described lessons about manipulating women and recruiting them into online sex work, claims connected to the criminal case against the Tate brothers. Tate and Tristan have denied wrongdoing and have disputed characterisations of their businesses and groups.

Tate’s online reach expanded sharply in 2022 as followers circulated short clips of his interviews and statements. Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and YouTube removed or suspended his accounts over policy violations involving hate speech, misogyny and related content. His account on Twitter, now X, was later reinstated, while fan accounts continued circulating his material on other platforms.

Tate is associated with the online manosphere and the “alpha male” community. He has described himself as a misogynist and has made statements portraying women as subordinate to men, while presenting his broader message as one of discipline, self-reliance and financial success. His commentary has drawn condemnation from advocacy groups, researchers and educators concerned about its influence on boys and young men.

He has also been associated with right-wing and far-right personalities and has promoted antisemitic conspiracy theories, Holocaust revisionism and praise for Hamas. In January 2025, he announced the Britain Restoring Underlying Values Party, abbreviated as BRUV, and said he intended to contest a future British election. The proposed platform included strict immigration policies, severe criminal penalties and frequent referendums.

Tate and Tristan Tate were arrested in Romania in December 2022 as part of an investigation into allegations of rape, human trafficking and forming an organised crime group. Romanian prosecutors charged the brothers and two women in June 2023, identifying seven alleged victims. Tate and his brother have denied all charges. The Romanian case remained unresolved after a court returned the indictment to prosecutors because of procedural issues.

Tate has also faced legal proceedings in the United Kingdom. British police obtained an arrest warrant in 2024 in connection with allegations of sexual aggression, and the Crown Prosecution Service authorised charges including rape, assault and human trafficking in 2025. Four women brought a civil case in the High Court, while Devon and Cornwall Police pursued civil proceedings concerning unpaid taxes connected to online businesses.

After leaving Romania in February 2025, Tate became the subject of an investigation by the Florida attorney general. In July 2026, U.S. Marshals arrested him and Tristan Tate in Miami under a United Kingdom extradition request. Tate faces additional British charges, including rape, human trafficking, assault and offences involving indecent images of a child. He denies wrongdoing and intends to contest extradition.
