Gina Capitani

Capitani had four children with Roland Theodor Achilles von Kurnatowski: sons Zefferino and Theodor (Theo Von), and daughters Whittier and Rolanda. Her son Theo was born on March 19, 1980, in Covington, Louisiana, when Capitani was 31 years old and Roland was in his late sixties. Roland, who was born in Nicaragua in 1912, passed away from cancer in 1996 when Theo was 16 years old.

Capitani raised her family in southern Louisiana under challenging financial circumstances. When Theo was 14 years old, she signed the paperwork granting him legal emancipation. In later years, Capitani resided in Tucson, Arizona.

Capitani originates from central Illinois in the area around Peoria, where her family ties include relatives Laddie and Clara Tuttle. Her sons spent summers in Wyoming, Illinois, during their childhood.

Throughout her life, Capitani worked demanding manual labor positions to support her household. Her son Theo has recalled that she delivered newspapers during his childhood, a physical job that inspired several of his stand-up comedy bits. She later performed delivery work associated with Amazon.

Capitani's influence is a recurring theme across Theo Von's storytelling and interviews. While Theo has described their relationship as emotionally strained during his childhood, the two grew closer as adults.

In November 2025, Theo shared during a conversation on This Past Weekend that Capitani had visited him in Nashville, Tennessee, where they spent time listening to blues music together. He also noted that she regularly listens to his podcast episodes.
