Boosie BadAzz

Boosie BadAzz has eight children with six women. His children include Torrence Hatch Jr., Imani Hatch, and Tyrus Hatch. His former girlfriend Walnita "Nita" Decuir, the mother of three of his children, was arrested in 2010 on drug-distribution charges connected to an attempt to smuggle substances to him while he was incarcerated.

He was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes during childhood. In 2015, he revealed that he had kidney cancer and underwent surgery to remove the cancer. He earned his GED certificate while incarcerated in 2013.

Boosie began rapping in the 1990s as a member of Concentration Camp, a Baton Rouge collective formed by C-Loc. His cousin Young Dee introduced him to C-Loc, and he was mentored by Young Bleed, C-Loc, and MD. He joined the group in 1998 as its youngest member and appeared on C-Loc's album It's a Gamble and Concentration Camp's Camp III: Thug Brothas in 2000.

At 17, he released his debut album, Youngest of da Camp, in 2000. He signed with Pimp C's Trill Entertainment in 2001 and released For My Thugz in 2002. The album featured Pimp C, Young Bleed, and Webbie, while his early mixtape Boosie 2002 (Advance) included contributions from Max Minelli and Pimp C.

Boosie developed a close musical partnership with Webbie, beginning with the 2003 album Ghetto Stories. The two later released Gangsta Musik and collaborated on the remix of Foxx's "Wipe Me Down." The remix, also featuring Webbie, appeared on the 2007 Trill Entertainment compilation Survival of the Fittest and became one of Boosie's best-known releases.

In 2005, Boosie signed with Warner Bros. Records. His major-label debut, Bad Azz, arrived in 2006 and included the single "Zoom" featuring Yung Joc. He followed it with Superbad: The Return of Boosie Bad Azz in 2009, whose single "Better Believe It" featured Webbie and Young Jeezy. He also founded Bad Azz Entertainment in 2009.

Boosie was arrested in 2008 after deputies found marijuana and a Glock in his car. He later faced drug charges and a first-degree murder charge connected to the killing of Terry Boyd. A jury found him not guilty of the murder charge in 2012, while he pleaded guilty to drug charges and served five years in prison.

He was released on March 5, 2014. His return to music included a new deal with Atlantic Records, the single "Show Da World" with Webbie, and the mixtape Life After Deathrow. His comeback album, Touch Down 2 Cause Hell, was released in 2015 and featured artists including Rich Homie Quan, Chris Brown, Rick Ross, T.I., and Keyshia Cole.

In October 2014, he changed his stage name from Lil' Boosie to Boosie Badazz. He explained that the new name reflected his adulthood and his role as a father.

Boosie and his brother and manager Taquari "TQ" Hatch founded Bad Azz Music Syndicate. The company grew out of Bad Azz Entertainment and was intended to establish a broader music brand capable of representing artists from different backgrounds and countries. Boosie later released projects including BooPac in 2017, Boosie Blues Cafe in 2018, and Badazz 3.5, Bad Azz Zay, Talk Dat Sht, and Goat Talk* in 2019.

Boosie has appeared in films including Gangsta Musik, Bad Azz, On the Grind, Last Dayz, Ghetto Stories: The Movie, Glass Jaw, and My Struggle. His acting work accompanies a music career that includes more than 40 mixtapes, solo albums, and collaborative releases.

He published Cross the Tracks: A Memoir in 2022. The book adds an autobiographical account to the themes of family, incarceration, illness, and survival that have also appeared in his music.
